If you want to listen to the activity in the rumen of a cow, you have to place your stethoscope IN THE LEFT PARALUMBAR FOSSA. From this location you can listen to the rumen contractions. Normal rumen contractions which can take between one and three minutes are strong at this point and can be felt and seen.
