The duty on a car was decreased from 45% to 35%.if the new duty is ¢5400 what was the former duty.

If 35% = 5400

35/45 × 54000

=3960

The easiest way to do it is to make a ratio. 45% is equal to .45 and 35% is .35.
.45/x=.35/5400
Now you cross multiply and divide to find the previous duty.
5400*.45=2430
2430/.35=6942.86
