why is william Goldman trying to confuse readers about s morgenstern in the princess bride? Is that confusion necessary for the kind of story he is trying to tell?

I think a testament of being a good and effective writer is if you get the most out of the readers' emotions. As long as you affect their emotions, then you would get a good feedback. So, I think confusing the readers is all part of the plot. This is to excite the readers and catch them off guard.
