A control group is the group of people or things you, well control in your experiment. Say you were doing an experiment on the effectiveness of a vitamin, you would gather a group of people and for the sake of this assignment we'll say you have 10 people. You'd give 5 of the 10 people the actual vitamin and have them tell you how they feel and you'd give the other 5 a fake pill that looks like the vitamin that does nothing, and ask them how they feel after taking it.
