Explanation:

4.

in total they are 1400m apart.

between them is the library. and Martha has to walk or drive 500m to get to it. so, how many more meters does she have to travel to get to Laura ?

well, it is the rest of 500m to 1400m.

and that is calculated as difference, as subtraction :

1400 - 500 = 900m

5.

you have to solve such questions but don't know about differences of distance ? something does not feel right.

anyway,

the volume of a cylinder is

ground area times height = pi×r²×h

in our case

Vcylinder = pi×8²×25 = pi×64×25 = 5,026.548246... ft³

rounded that is 5,027 ft³

the volume of a cone is ground area times height divided by 3 = pi×r²×h/3

in our case that is

Vcone = pi×8²×6/3 = pi×64×2 = 402.1238597... ft³

rounded that is 402 ft³

the volume of the whole silo is then

Vsilo = Vcylinder + Vcone = 5,429 ft³

6.

according to the rules of lines intersecting parallel lines the intersecting line must have the same angles with each parallel line (otherwise they would not be parallel). each parallel line can take the place of the other and nothing changes about the angles.

so, 1st St. has the same angles with Maple St. as 2nd St.

on the left side of Maple street there are 115°.

and as all angles around a point on one side of a line must be together 180°, the angle 1 must be

180 - 115 = 65°

if you wonder why that is, remember that a circle represents 360°.

a line with a specific point with angles can be seen as diameter of a circle with that point being the center of the circle. and a diameter cuts a circle in half. on one side of the line we have therefore the degrees of a half circle, which is 360/2 = 180°.

For the first question/ page
1400-500= 900
That’s it!
Or if you understand it better like this 900+500=1400
