What was the role of the Christian church in medieval society

The Church was the maximum authority since 380 d.C. when Theodosius accepted it as the official religion of the Roman Empire.

In the Medieval period the doctrine of the Church was the World with God at his center. The Church had all the power, and Imperators must have followed Church rules.

The Christian church was one of the leading governmental heads that were allowed to make their own laws within a certain boundary, and were allowed to not pay taxes (reason why they are rich).
Church's also helped people find their faith, however, many catholic church's during the medieval society were fairly corrupted
