the midpoint of (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is
((x_1+x_2)/(2),(y_1+y_2)/(2))

just average them

(4,1) and (-2,4)
the midpoint is
((4-2)/(2),(1-4)/(2))=((2)/(2),(-3)/(2))=(1,-1.5)
