Eye contact can be taken as a challenge to authority and a form of aggression in many Latin, Asian, and African cultures. Also, female's in Japan avoid direct eye contact as a sign of respect. In the Middle Eastern cultures, eye contact between men is a sign of respect. However, eye contact from a female to a male is considered treating and aggressive.
