You have to have a common denominator in order to be able to add the fractions so you have to multiply (3/5) by 8 to the top and bottom number. And multiply 5 to (7/8) to the top and bottom number. Now that you have common denominator you can add, adding your whole numbers gets you 7, and adding your fractions gets you 59/40. You can simplify, you can get another whole number from the added fraction which gets you 8 and your remaining fraction is 19/40. Your final answer is 8 19/40 which can not be reduced anymore.
