When we use the formula for the area of a triangle, why do we use the height and not the hypotenuse?

The area is B(h) 1/2 which mean base times height divided my 1/2 since a triangle is half of a square

area is a half x l x h

Explanation:

we cannot use the hypotenuse because it wouldn't bring the area
