Calvin and Melvin are two of Santa's elves. The number of toys they build is given by 11c+8m11c+8m11, c, plus, 8, m where ccc is the number of candy canes Calvin eats for breakfast and mmm is the number of candy canes Melvin eats for breakfast.

How many toys do they build when Calvin eats 555 candy canes and Melvin eats 333 candy canes for breakfast?

Given:

11c + 8m

c = 5 (number of candy canes Calvin eats for breakfast)

m = 3 (number of candy canes Melvin eats for breakfast)

Find:

toys built = ?

Solution:

So, with the given, we substitute each of the values in the equation, where c = 5 (Calvin’s candy canes) & m = 3 (Melvin’s candy canes) and perform the equation’s operations:

11c + 8m

(11 * 5) + (8 * 3)

55 + 24 = 79

Therefore, when Melvin eats 3 candy canes Calvin eats 5 candy canes for breakfast, they can build a total of 79 toys.
