After the war, the colonists felt they no longer needed the British troops. They wanted them to leave. England insisted for the troops to stay and that the colonists would pay a tax to pay for the soldier's wages and the colonists still had to house and feed the troops. Colonists were outraged by this and the sentiment of independence began thereafter.
