Given:

Price = 2$ per square foot

Total price = $288

Find:

The length of the floor in feet.

Solution

Squares have sides of equal length. The solution for the area of a square is:

Area = x2

where x is the side length.

If each square foot is $2 and the total is $288, we divide 288 by 2 to find out how many square feet the floor has.

$288 / ($2 per square foot) = 144 square feet

Take the square-root of this value to get the length of the floor.

x = √144

x = 12

Therefore, the length of the floor is 12 feet.
