The symbol of a mockingbird represents innocence. It represents how beautiful it is. The mockingbird doesn't take from the world, it only adds beauty to it.

I'm some way, this can symbolize Scout's ignorance at the beginning of the book. She doesn't know what is going to happen. She was too young, and then forced to mature so quickly.
