Jack picked a card from a standard deck, looked at it, and then put it back. He then picked a second card. What is the probability that Jack picked a diamond or a queen on either pick?

You know there are 4 suits.  You know there are 52 cards.  That means that any suit has a 13/52 chance of being that suit.  If you know cards, there are always 4 queens.  So there is a 4/52 chance that the card is a queen, that means 1/13 reduced.  If they are asking for both, you have a 17/52 chance of getting either of those cards on each turn.

Solution:

Total umber of Cards in a deck of cards = 52

Total number of Diamonds in pack of 52 cards = 13

Total number of queen = 4

Number of Diamond cards and Queen =13 diamonds(Which includes 1 queen) + 3 queens which are not diamond=16( Favorable outcome)

Probability that Jack picked a diamond or a queen on either pick=Diamond(13)+3 Queen=(16 in number) =
\frac{\text{Total Favorable outcome}}{\text{Total Possible outcome}}=(16)/(52)}=(4)/(13)
