Environmental bioremediation using bacteria is least effective on heavy metals. Bioremediation is a waste treatment method that involves using microorganisms in order to neutralize or minimize the pollutants present from the waste. Typically it is used in breaking down substances that are classified as hazardous into less toxic or better as non toxic compounds. Although, this method is often used in a number of industries, its effect has its own limitations. Not all of the contaminants present in the waste can be treated easily by this method especially heavy metals like lead and cadmium where in they cannot be captured or absorbed by microorganisms readily.
