Study shows that environment really plays a big role when it comes to its influence on the intelligence of an individual. Environment is said to have big impact on the variation of children’s intelligence especially when environment goes alongside with the genes. Environmental influences include those from the family, peer group, education, training and interventions and environmental enrichment. One example where intelligence is affected by peer group is the stereotype threat. This is when people who belong to a stereotyped group may not perform well in a situation where the stereotype is relevant. Example of this is when females who were given the talk that women are worse at chess than men, do not perform well in a game of chess than to those females who were not told this. Another, from the environment direct from the family is, the type and amount of praise a child receives from the family can affect his/ her intelligence. A research by Dweck states that the feedback on academic achievements can change the future intelligence scores of a child.
