A mailbox is 15 inches long and 8 inches wide. The height of the mailbox before the curve is 6 inches. What is the volume of the mailbox? Use 3.14 for pi.

Since the curved part is a semi-circle of radius 4,
(8*6 + π/2 * 4^2)*15 = 720+120π in³

if we assume the curve thing is a semicircle then

volume rectangleular prism=length times width times height
volume=cylinder=hpir^2

ok, so

the mailbox is 8 inches wide, so the diameter of the half cylinder is 8, so the radius is 4
the dome part on the top is radius 4 and height 15
and it is a half cylinder so
v=1/2(15)pi4^2=15/2(16pi)=120pi cubic inches

the mailbox is 15 times 8 times 6 or 720 cubic inches

total is 120pi+720 or 1096.8 cubic inches
