A taxi ride cost $1.25 plus $0.75 per mile. If the total cost of the trip is $12.50, how many miles did the passenger travel?

The answer to this equation is you divide up the 12.50 and the 1.25 and that will give you 1.00. When you realize that 1 mile is 5,280 feet you take the 5,280 feet and subtract it from the 14.00 (add up everything in the equation) an you finally get 205 miles that the passenger traveled.

subtract the constant ( 1.25) from total cost

12.50 -1.25 = 11.25

divide that by cost per mile to find total miles

11.25 / 0.75 = 15

15 miles
