Bertie mean when he uses totter and trickle is to show that he is a man of leisure. The line does not lose sight of the fact that all this was taking place on an empty stomach shortly after the rising of the lark from the story help the reader to better comprehend bertie’s character which supports for readers the idea that Bertie is not happy about aunt agatha's official visit. Bertie be acquainted with gussie well, particularly that gussie tends to get into trouble and aunt agatha desires bertie to do to some degree that he does not want to do.
