Together, DNA and RNA work to control protein function and gene expression in the body. The role of DNA is to pass hereditary information from parents to offspring. In this process, the DNA molecule is separated into two strands and copied to form a replica of the original DNA molecule. The copy is then checked for errors. This copy is used in cellular reproduction and heredity. Using DNA as a template, RNA makes proteins that are involved in nearly all cellular processes.
