price increase = (new number - original number) / original number....* 100
= (2.89 - 2.84) / 2.84...* 100
= 0.05 / 2.84....* 100
= 0.0176 ...* 100
= 1.76 rounds to 1.8% <===

2.89-2.84 = 0.05 cent increase
0.05/2.84 = 0.0176
0.0176 = 1.8% increase
