Every week William collects a few pounds of plastic bags to recycle. The graph below shows the total number of pounds of plastic bags (y) that William collected in a certain amount of time (x), in weeks:
What would most likely be the total amount of plastic, in pounds, William would collect in 10 weeks?

He starts off with 40 pounds then he adds another 40 pounds each week
so after 10 weeks he will most likely have 40 + 10(40) = 440 pounds of bags.

Answer:

440

Explanation:

Given :

Time (x) No. of pounds(y)

0 40

1 80

2 120

3 160

4 200

Now find the equation of line using two point slope form.

Formula:
y-y_1=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)(x-x_1)

(x_1,y_1)=(0,40)

(x_2,y_2)=(1,80)

Substitute the values in the formula

y-40=(80-40)/(1-0)(x-0)

y-40=40x

y=40x+40

Now we are supposed to find the total amount of plastic, in pounds, William would collect in 10 weeks.

So, substitute x =10

y=40(10)+40

y=440

Hence the total amount of plastic, in pounds, William would collect in 10 weeks is 440.
