Point V(-2, 4) is translated using the rule (x, y) → (x, y – 4). Where is the image, V’, located?

The process of translation means that only the position of the point is being changed. No other parameters are changed such as reflection or rotation is being made.

In this case the translation is solely made on the y axis. A translation of (x, y – 4) means that the point is moved down by 4 units.

So in this case, our point V is at coordinates of (-2, 4) so a translation of (x, y – 4) means that V’ is moved down by 4 units and the new coordinates are:

V’ = (- 2, 4 – 4)

V’ = (-2, 0)

answer:

(-2, 0)
