we know that

The probability of an event is the ratio of the size of the event space to the size of the sample space.

The size of the sample space is the total number of possible outcomes

The event space is the number of outcomes in the event you are interested in.

so

Let

x---------> size of the event space

y--------> size of the sample space

the probability is equal to

P=(x)/(y)

in this problem we have

y=72,000,000\ people

x=3,600\ people

find the percent chance that a person will drown in a given year

substitute the values in the formula of probability

P=(3,600)/(72,000,000)

P=0.00005

convert to percentage------> multiply by
100

percentage=0.00005*100=0.005\%

therefore

the answer is

0.005\%
