Relative dating is a method that is used to determine the order of a particular thing relative to events in the past like the age of a certain object relative another object. Absolute dating is a technique to determine the absolute age of a certain object. Examples of relative dating are the law of superposition, time markers and seriation. Examples of absolute dating are radiocarbon dating, dendrochronology, Argon-Argon, Thermoluminescence, Electron Spin Resonance and Optically Stimulated Luminescence .
