f(x) = -x² - 2x + 1

f(-5) = -(-5)² - 2(-5) + 1

f(-5) = -25 + 10 + 1

f(-5) = -15 + 1

f(-5) = -14

-14 <----- answer

Simple as subbin' in -5 for x.
f(-5) = -(-5)² - 2(-5) + 1
= -25 + 10 + 1
= -14
