They were not earnestly concerned, they were quite recently searching for somebody to fill in as the substitute. The settlement's slant towards everything is intended to be tricky and to hold twofold measures. All through the novel we perceive how the senior citizens govern while one of their own impregnated a lady and left her to her disrespect. We perceive how they all cry "witch" while permitting a self-admitted witch and sorcerer live among them in a far and away superior status than Hester.
