When he was eight years old he worked in a shipyard under Hugh Auld at Baltimore. He had the opportunity to read and write and be literate. It was the time he set a goal Baltimore to start his dreams on laying the ground of being free. At a young age, he became driven to work and join abolitionist organizations.
