A cylinder has a diameter of 14 cm and a height of 20 cm.

a. Find the total surface area of the cylinder.
b. If gift wrap cost $3 per square centimeter, how much will it cost to cover the cylinder with gift wrap? Use 3.14 for π.
c. Find the volume of the cylinder.

The Radius of the circular bases is R=14/2 = 7 (cm)

The circumference of the base circles is 2πR=2*3.14*7= 44 (cm)

The area of the base circles is
\pi R^(2) =3.14 * 7*7 = 154
(cm^2).

a. The total surface area of a cylinder is:

2 * Area of circular bases + lateral surface.

the lateral surface, is rectangle of measures 2πR by height,

so lateral surface = 44 * 20 = 880 (cm squared)

total surface area = 2*154+880= 1188 (cm squared)

b.

the surface area to be covered is 1188 cm^2, which costs $3 per cm^2,

so the cost is 1188 * 3 = 3564 ($)

c.

The volume of the cylinder is Area(base)* Height = 154 * 20 = 3080 (cm^2)

Answers:

a.1188 (cm squared)

b.3564 ($)

c.3080 (cm^2)
