In the 1920s, police arrested thousands of suspected radicals in what became known as (d.) Palmer Raids. This is the name of the many raids during the "First Red Scare", so called because the fear of Bolshevism and Anarchism. The raids were targeted against suspected radicals. The raids are known as the Palmer raids because of the then Attorney General, M.Palmer.
