12-8=4.
18-8=10.
10+4+8=22
60-22=38

well if 12.students tAke algebra I and 18 tAke algebra II and 8 of these students are in both classes, that means we are actually counting these.8 students twice. So it would appear there are 30 but minus the 8 we counted twice and we get 22. So 60 - 22 = 38
