Given :

The length of hair after cut = 3.25 inches

The length of hair before cut = 5.5 inches

Harold's rate of hair growth is 0.5 inch per month

Let m is the number of months between the haircuts

so, the equation used to find m will be :

0.5\cdot m=5.5-3.25

Solve for m :

\begin{gathered} 0.5m=2.25 \\ \\ m=(2.25)/(0.5)=4.5 \end{gathered}

So, the number of months between the haircuts = 4.5
