When blood glucose levels are too high, the beta cells of the pancreas release insulin to decrease levels. As a result the blood glucose levels decrease. The hormone insulin enable us to use the sugar from the food we eat (carbohydrates). Portion of the sugar we use for energy, while the other portion we store as glucose for future use. Insulin prevents hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.
