An example of programmed cell death is the differentiation of VESSEL AND TRACHEARY ELEMENTS IN XYLEM. Programmed cell death refers to the deliberate killing of unwanted or old cells in the body as a result of intracellularly program cell death. It is also called apostosis. It is one of the mechanism by which the body remove unwanted cells from circulation.
