Religion help encouraged the Americans to go against British Colonizers. Religous people believed that the revolution is what God wants and that overthrowing the British is the right thing to do. The clergies in religious sects became head figures during the war.

Religion played an important role in the cause of the American Independence. First the revolution was justified in the sight of God, with that, the ones that did not agree with the revolution would not be following God’s will.

With religion being a part of the cause of the American Revolution, the ministers started to help with the war, serving as penmen for committees of correspondence, holding constitutional conventions and even taking up arms.

Of course not all religions supported the Revolution, the members of Church of England had to support the King and the Quakers remained pacifists.
