During the Vietnam War, many people were outraged because there was no purpose for being involved in it in the first place.
The public started to gather in anti-war protests. The media went off of what the people said, and the people went off of what the media said. Many innocent people died because American troops couldn't tell if the Vietnamese people in certain areas were guerrilla people or just civilians.

I didn't really explain it very well but I hope it helps.
