We are asked how many slices that represent 1/6 of a cake are there in half a cake. To do that, we can exemplify the problem in the following diagram:

As we can see in the diagram, the fact that each slice represents 1/6 of the cake means that there were 6 slices in total. Therefore, in half the cake there will be 3 slices of 1/6, since:


3*(1)/(6)=(3)/(6)=(1)/(2)
