Let the unknown side be w.

And the bottom side l=14 in.

We know that the perimeter of rectangle is given by :-


\text{Perimeter}=2(l+w)\\\Rightarrow40=2(14+w)\\\Rightarrow(40)/(2)=14+w\\\\Rightarrow20=14+w\\\Rightarrow\ w=20-14)\\\Rightarrow w=6\ in.

Hence, the the length of w = 6 inches.
