(12(0.08)+x(0.2))/(12+x)=0.16 perform indicated multiplication on left side

(0.96+0.2x)/(12+x)=0.16 multiply both sides by (12+x)

0.96+0.2x=1.92+0.16x subtract 0.16x from both sides

0.96+0.04x=1.92 subtract 0.96 from both sides

0.04x=0.96 divide both sides by 0.04

x=24

So 24 liters of 20% acid solution is in the new mixture.
