7(x-2)=4(x+1)-21 perform indicated multiplications on both sides
7x-14=4x+4-21 combine like terms on right side
7x-14=4x-17 add 14 to both sides
7x=4x-3 subtract 4x from both sides
3x=-3 divide both sides by 3
x=-1
