How did african americans respond to the rise of jim crow in the south?

Most African Americans, upon the consolidation and implementation of the Jim Crow laws, had to submit to them (against their will) and accept the subordinate position the laws themselves put them in.

Had they ever attempted to revolt against the aforementioned laws, they would immediately be labeled as "uppity Negroes" and this could result in their lynching.
