You can solve it by using the expression (4+3) 12. First, do 4+3 which is 7. Then, you multiply it by 12 to get your total of 84. Mrs. Patil bought 84 pencils.

she bought 4, then she bought 3 more....so she bought 7 packs
each pack contains 12 pencils..

so 7 packs each containing 12 pencils ...
7(12) = 84 total pencils <===
