Slope is defined as the change in y over the change in x:

m = (y_2 - y_1)/(x_2 - x_1)

In the picture below, they have plotted two points that are on the line. We can use those two points in the slope formula.

(7 - (-3))/(3 - (-2)) = (10)/(5) = 2

The slope is 2 or
(2)/(1). For every 2 points you move the Y direction, you move 1 once in the X direction.
