Step 1:

Divide the figure into parallelogram, trapezium and a rectangle.

Step 2:

Find the area of each figure

Area of parallelogram A

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of parallelogram = Base }*\text{ Height} \\ =\text{ 4 }*\text{ 3} \\ =12in^2 \end{gathered}

Area of rectangle B with dimension 18 in by 4 in

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of rectangle B = Length }*\text{ Breadth} \\ =\text{ 18 }*\text{ 4} \\ =72in^2 \end{gathered}

Find the area of trapezium C

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of trapezium = }(1)/(2)(a\text{ + b)}* h\text{ } \\ \text{a = 1 , b = 2 , h = 4} \\ \text{Area of trapezium = }(1)/(2)(1\text{ + 2)}*4\text{ } \\ \text{Area of trapezium = }(12)/(2)\text{ } \\ \text{Area of trapezium = }6in^2 \end{gathered}

Final answer

The area of the figure is the sum of the area of the trapezium, parallelogram and rectangle.

= 6 + 72 + 12

= 90
