Well I mean we know he spent a total of $4.50, but since we don't have any of the answer choices this is almost impossible.

Answer:

The answer is $3(0.50+1.00)

Explanation:

Robert bought 3 pounds of bananas at $0.50 per pound which can be expressed as:

3*0.50

And 3 pounds of apples at $1.00 per pound which can be expressed as:

3*1.00

As Robert bought the apples and bananas, you can add both expressions:

3*0.50 + 3*1.00

This expression can be factorized as:

3(0.50+1.00)

or

3(1.50)

Both expressions will give you the same result, which is $4.50.
