The most important postoperative instruction a nurse must give to a client who has just returned from the operating room after receiving a subarachnoid block is to "remain supine for the time specified by the physician." The anesthetics used by the locals in a subarachnoid block do not alter the gag reflex and so far no ractions with the local anesthetics has taken place wen mixed with food.
