In the process of ionization, what is the relationship between the second ionization energy (I2) and the third ionization energy (I3)? I2 > I3 I2 < I3 I2 = I3 There is no way to predict this relationship.

The relationship is: I₂ < I₃

That's because by removing electron the rest of them is more attracted by positively charged nucleus (there are less of them and the charge of the nucleus is constant) and it's more difficult to remove another one.

Answer:
I_2<I_3

Step-by-step explanation: Ionization energy is the energy required to remove electron from a gaseous atom.

Nucleus of an atom attracts the electrons towards it as the nucleus has positively charged protons and electrons are negatively charged. There is attraction between these oppositely charged particles. Greater is the nucleus charger harder is to remove the electron.

I_2 stands for second ionization energy means the energy required to remove second electron and
I_3 stands for third ionization energy means the energy required to remove the third electron.

As we keep removing electrons, its harder to remove the next electron as the nucleus becomes more positive and it has more attraction towards for the electrons.

So, third ionization energy is greater than second ionization energy. It's the general trend.

So, the correct choice is.
I_2<I_3 .
