Use proportions:

(7x-4)/31 = (4y+8)/24 = (y+2)/6

Multiply:

6*(7x-4) = 31*(y+2)---> 42x-24 = 31y+62 ---> 11y = 86, y = 86/11

I don;t like that is looks 'ugly', instead of sth like y = 88/11=8. I think 86/11 is the answer. Check the math! :)

Answer:

the value of x and y are, 5 and 4

Explanation:

SSS(Side Side Side) postulate states, that if three sides of one triangle are congruent to three sides of another triangle, then these two triangles are congruent.

In given triangle ABC and triangle CDE as shown in attachment , by above theorem ,we have

AB\cong BC

7x-4=31

7x=35

x=5

also,
BC\cong DE

4y+8=24

simplify:

4y=16

y=4

Hence, the value of x=5 and y=4.
