In the short story "everyday use" by Alice walker, what is most likely the real reason dee dresses differently and changes her name to wangero?

Dee/Wangero is continuously trying to define and redefine her own identity. She rejects her immediate African-American ancestry, deeming it less worthy and less authentic than her African heritage. Her judgment betrays her, however; in her perturbation, she forgets the fact that her mother and sister are depicting who she is. She is deeply insecure and ashamed of her own race.
